community partnerships
We’re committed to partnering with local programs and organizations that provide needed resources to the members of our community.
If you have any questions about these partnerships or want to get involved, please reach out to our Associate Pastor & Community Hub Director, Molly Lorden, at molly@nhunited.org.
san diego fridge project
In partnership with the San Diego Fridge Project, we host a Community Fridge, Freezer, and Pantry right in front of our building for the neighborhood to use as they’re able! Neighbors are invited to shop for each other as they do their own grocery shopping, businesses are encouraged to donate leftovers, and all are welcome to take what they need from the fridge.
safe harbors
We believe housing is a basic human right. San Diego has an acute housing crisis, so since 2018 we have been using our building as a shelter for asylum-seekers through the Safe Harbor shelter network! In 2021 we received a generous grant from the Georgia Lynch Foundation to create an apartment in our building for our housing program to be more sustainable long-term.
boston university / TRC
In 2021 we received a generous grant from Boston University to become a Trauma Responsive Congregation! NHUnited is a church where all are welcome. It has become a place for members of the LGBTQ+ community to feel welcomed, loved, and affirmed. In keeping with this desire to care well for these members of the parish and the neighborhood, the project will center around education, resources, and support for LGBTQ+ individuals.
adams ave business association
We love our neighborhood of Normal Heights! Throughout the year we partner with the Adams Avenue Business Association to participate in neighborhood events, like Unplugged, and the yearly Street Fair. We love getting to use our sanctuary as the main stage for concerts in conjunction with these events, as well as for other concerts throughout the year.
