It was a bummer that vandalism prevented the Community Fridge from being a 24/7 resource for everyone who needs it for the past week. Well, we’re happy to say that new parts arrived and the door is back on! Our big friend is back to chilling on the sidewalk again, ready to help anyone in need and anyone ready to share some love!💕
THIS FRIDAY FROM 6:30-8PM IN THE SANCTUARY

To say that activism takes energy is an understatement. It takes emotional energy, physical energy, mental energy, and even spiritual energy. To stay hopeful as you work against systems that dehumanize people is a challenge. So if you’ve been feeling your energy drain as you work for your neighbor to build a better world, we’ve put together an evening for you. Come and find rest for your body, mind, and soul so that you find the energy you need to keep going. This event is open to everyone of all spiritual backgrounds, so invite your friends, colleagues, and neighbors! (link in bio)
This Friday evening before Easter, we invite you into a quiet, reflective worship experience in the Sanctuary as we recall Jesus’ final hours before his death. Using the last seven sayings of Jesus to guide us through the story, members of the community will reflect on them through original pieces of art, poetry, and music. The evening will follow the Tenebrae style, which means “darkening.” As the story is told through the service, the Sanctuary will gradually darken in observation of Christ’s death.

*Please keep in mind the YCC (Young Child Center) won’t be open to provide childcare during Friday night’s service.
We’re celebrating Holy Week starting tomorrow with our Holy Thursday Dinner at 6:30pm, then our Good Friday Service at 7pm, finally it all culminates on Sunday…

⛪️ WORSHIP:
Join us for an absolutely joyful service as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus! We’ll set the celebratory Easter mood in our Sunday service with music, prayer, preaching, and of course, dancing as we celebrate Communion while a New Orleans style brass jazz band fills up our 100 year old Sanctuary.

🎉 PARADE AT NOON:
At the end of the service, the Euphoria Brass Band will lead us in an Easter celebration parade around the block that ends in the park across the street!

🎷 🍽️ 🎺 PICNIC AT 12:15 PM
Join us immediately after for a picnic in the park, right across the street from church! We’ll provide the Easter hams and drinks, and invite you to bring a side or dessert to share. All are welcome to attend (even if you don’t bring something). There will be shade canopies, tables and chairs, and a new picnic seating area so bring your blankets and beach chairs if you want! Plus, we’ll get to enjoy a continued performance with Euphoria Brass Band – dancing is sure to continue! We will also have an egg hunt for the kids!

Here’s a Throw-WAY-Back Thursday! 100 years ago today, they broke ground to build our church!

The Normal Heights Methodist congregation started up on November 9th, 1913. On March 12, 1926 they broke ground to start building the church. It was later in September of 1926 year they laid the cornerstone to begin construction of the building, and the photo above wasn’t taken until closer to April of 1929 when the building was dedicated.

This year we invite you to our reflective and interactive Ash Wednesday service called “Conversations with Death,” an evening of meeting your mortality with sacred curiosity instead of fear or despair. This service will offer you tangible ways to enter that conversation, allowing mortality to be your teacher, and wondering what the reality of mortality changes for your faith today. This service is an introspective time, and we look forward to worshiping and reflecting with you.

Come as you are tonight. All are welcome.

Ash Wednesday is an ancient church observance that, for centuries, has invited us to consider the inescapable reality of our mortality. It is a service that each year takes its name from the ritual where we place ashes on our foreheads and are reminded that “from dust we come and to dust we shall return.”
